Black Bird Books is a small independent bookstore in the outer sunset. The owner converted this former daycare space next door to a coffee shop into a vibrant, warm space for browsing books and gathering. Narrow shelves take up minimal width in this small space, and allow book covers to face customers. A local carpenter custom built all of the shelving from reclaimed wood, and a salvaged tree provides a play structure at the heart of the store. DDA provided space planning, bathroom design and lighting consultation to bring this project to completion.
