One of the few projects in the Bay Area where we were asked, and allowed by the city, to reduce the parking! Originally, this house had an inglorious 2-car garage facing the street, while the main entry was located down a side alley.  We were able to reduce the parking to a 1-car garage, and convert the other garage to a front door and hall to the main house. What was once a huge expanse of concrete driveway was converted to a true front yard. A new cedar garage door and coordinating finishes on the entry updated the look of the home.
